The Setta Pilka Story
The story of the poinsettia’s creation is one of faith and a miracle. A young Mexican boy was on his way to church one Christmas Eve. The child was crestfallen that he had nothing for baby Jesus. He prayed for a gift to offer as he slowly walked through a weed strewn field. Hearing the child’s prayers an angel came to the boy and whispered softly into his ear “The gift is within your reach. Take faith that the simplest of gifts you can offer is the richest and the most miraculous that can be shared”. The child ran his hands through the weeds surrounding him, eventually gathering a handful which he absent mindedly held as he walked. The mysterious words kept running through his head. He entered the church and placed the weeds on the lowest step of the apse, in front of the crèche. Suddenly the weeds were transformed into a beautiful bouquet of red flowers. The boy stepped back and rubbed his eyes in disbelief. The poinsettia had been born!
