Ming Stocked's Story
In ancient times a man named Nikolaos inherited a large fortune at a young age. An altruistic and caring man, Nikolaos wanted to share his wealth with the needy. Knowing that many people had too much pride to ask for help, he would often disguise himself and secretly leave gifts for the poor. He became known as Nikolaos the Wonderworker and would one day be named St. Nicholas. As legend has it Nikolaos knew a hardworking widower with three lovely daughters. The man was distressed. He could not afford the cost of one, let alone three weddings. Nikolaos hearing of his plight decided to secretly help him. Late one rainy Christmas eve he climbed onto their roof and dropped a small fortune in coins down the chimney. The coins fell into the stockings that had been hung up to dry by the hearth. The girls awoke the next morning and found their stockings filled with coins. A new tradition was born. From that night until today each Christmas eve stockings are left out to fill with gifts.
